Transform Your Space with a Different Rug

Transform Your Space with a Different Rug

Completely transform the look of your home’s spaces with area rugs. You can create illusions that remedy any inherent issues, such as lack of space or poor lighting with the right rug. Find the most appropriate rugs that match your style to give your home a fresh face.

Some transformation tips include:

Protect High-Traffic Areas

Create a path through the home in your high-traffic areas; this will preserve the floor while also creating good chi. Go with high-end rugs from wool and natural fibers, which are most-durable and easy to maintain.

When in Doubt, Go Big

When in doubt about what size rug you need go bigger, not smaller. Too small will make your room seem oddly-shaped and bring too much attention to the rug; going bigger will create cohesion, as long as you leave the same amount of space on each side.

Lay Rugs Right

Your furniture belongs on top of your rug.

Make sure that you buy rugs that are big enough to accommodate chairs being pulled out or getting around end-tables. This creates an appealing aesthetic in your space.

Keep It Clean

Keep your space keep it clean and looking fresh; depending on the type of rug and placement, this equates to weekly vacuuming and monthly cleanings. It is possible to clean rugs too often, as it can wear-down fibers and damage them over time.

Try Something New

Create a new color-scheme without changing your existing furnishings or accents; buy an area rug that is a bit bolder than you normally might try. This pop of color can be transformative and really highlight colors and objects that you hadn’t even noticed before. Use smaller runners or scatter-rugs to bring pops of color to your smaller spaces.

Use these tips to transform and recreate a room in your home. Use area rugs to make spaces seem larger and more-airy; choose high-quality rugs from natural fibers for durability and longevity.

Put Your Washer to Work by Washing More than Just Your Dirty Laundry

Put Your Washer to Work by Cleaning These Surprising Things

Even though your washing machine is best suited for your dirty laundry, there are lots of other – often surprising – things that can be cleaned in the washer. Here are just a few to keep in mind.

Sports Gear

You probably already wash your workout clothes after you’ve used them, but you might not know that you can also wash pads, compression sleeves, and other kinds of workout gear that don’t always make it into your clothes hamper. Keep all velcro straps closed, place plastic pieces into a mesh laundry bag, and wash your dirty sports gear on the gentle cycle. Air dry them when you’re done for the best results.

Yoga Mats

Just like your workout gear, yoga mats can be safely cleaned in your washing machine. It’s best to use a machine without a central agitator if you can since they work best on delicate fabrics, but if you have a machine with a central agitator, simply unroll your yoga mat and arrange it around the agitator as evenly as possible.

Canvas Shoes

Unless the directions from the manufacturer say otherwise, canvas shoes can be washed in a washing machine. Remove the laces and any insoles, place the shoes in a mesh laundry bag, and wash with warm water and detergent. There are even some leather shoes that can be washed this way, but never assume that all shoes are safe for your washing machine. Always read the care and cleaning directions from the manufacturer before you do anything.

Stuffed toys and even some plastic toys can be cleaned in your washing machine. Plastic toys can be placed in a mesh laundry bag and thrown into a load of laundry with some warm water. If you have a sick child and you want to disinfect their toys, add some disinfectant to the wash.

Stuffed animals can be put in the wash as well, providing they don’t have any mechanical components or they’re too old and delicate for it. Place a stuffed animal in a mesh laundry bag and put it in with the rest of your laundry.
